Mathematics

We use the Go Math! curriculum that focuses on instruction that is balanced, relevant, credible, and supportive.  Go Math! follows the Ohio Learning Standards.  The curriculum for K-6 develops strong foundational skills, conceptual understanding, and application of the math skills.  It prepares students to be College and Career Ready by providing the students with a rigorous curriculum.

It is essential that students have a strong understanding of the number system.  Students should become fluent in the following areas:

K: Add/subtract within 5

1: Add/subtract within 10

2: Add/subtract within 20 and Add/subtract within 100 (pencil and paper)

3: Multiply/divide within 100 and Add/subtract within 1000

4: Add/subtract within 1,000,000

5: Multi‐digit multiplication

6: Multi‐digit division and Multi‐digit decimal operations

We know that the math curriculum is essential in teaching students to be ready to be college and career ready.  As such, we are committed to following the following 8 standards of mathematical practices as discussed in the Ohio Learning Standards:

  1. Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.
  2. Reason abstractly and quantitatively.
  3. Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning others.
  4. Model with mathematics.
  5. Use appropriate tools strategically.
  6. Attend to precision.
  7. Look for and make use of structure.
  8. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.
